The changing face of Jihad – Homeland Security Today

Al Qaeda Central (AQC) may be in decline, but its ideology continues to resonate and attract new adherents. It’s also encouraged a vast expansion of the terror network and its dogma into many more countries than it influenced when it attacked the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.

For the most part, Al Qaeda’s regional power centers have taken root in places where there’s tremendous political upheaval and security forces are too distracted by internal war or strife to take effective action against Islamist extremists.
